Upgrade problem with Thunderbird 38.0- All my saved email folders are gone! (and one user account)
I woke up this morning and opened up Thunderbird and it gave me the "Welcome to Thunderbird 38.0" tab. I didn't think much about this until I noticed that none of my local saved email folders were showing in the folders bar. Then I noticed that one of my email accounts was also missing. I've looked online and all of the solutions seem to assume that the email files (folders?) are still on my computer, just not linked in my profile. The problem is- I can't seem to find any reference to any of them in any Thunderbird folder in my Users folder.
My C:/Users/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles folder has a .default folder and in the folder is a prefs.js file that when I open it in Notepad, seems to be pretty complete- except there is no mention of my 2nd email account and no reference I can find to any of the folders I have been saving archived email in.
All of the help I can search out seems to make the assumption that the mail folders are still stored somewhere on my computer. I have no idea what to look for, but I can't see anything that looks like it would contain these mail files/folders.
The folders were there and accessible yesterday afternoon. I know this because I archived a bunch of email from my Inbox to the folders.
I am running Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit)

try deleting XULstore.json from the same folder that prefs is located it... make sure Thunderbird is not running when you so that.
I found that file and deleted it and the missing emails and folders did not return. Now what can I do?
I've now looked more and I see my missing folders. I deleted the json file w/ T bird closed. Then re-opened and old stuff still gone and there is a new json file. So I think my emails and folders are retrievable, but don't know how to do that.
Thanks
George
there are some others that deleting might fix it.
Panacea.dat.and foldertree.json are the most likely.
Have you tried rebooting with add-ons disabled. it is on the help menu.
Rebooting in safe mode doesn't work either.
Thanks
George
Do you think you could stick to one thread? I just worked out I am trying to help on two different threads.
