Hi,

I have recently upgraded from Firefox v6 to V31. I also upgraded my Vista Ultimate OS to the latest updates.

The result is that Firefox now runs slower that previously especially when displaying web pages.

I have tried the following but none of these make any difference.

Ran diskclean Ran disk defrag Ran a Registry cleaner Reset Firefox Tried Firefox in Safe mode

I am running Vista Ultimate SP II, Intel Core Duo T8300 2.4GHz, 3GB Ram, Nvidia Graphics Geforce 9500M GS

Do I need more Ram or is there another cause

Also quite often I get this message during the web page load

"Shockwave is not responding"

And the only way forward is to close Shockwave

Thanks Phil

V6 to v31 ! ? ! ? That's quite a jump.

With the last Firefox upgrade, some plugins are no longer enabled until you enable it.

Open the Add-ons Manager by Pressing the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by; Tools > Add-ons.

Hot key; <Control> (Mac: <Command>) <Shift> A)

On the left side of the page, select Plugins.

BTW; At the top right is a link to check your plugins.

Please use the update checker.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes Quite a jump

I checked the plugins. All up to date except the following plugins are shown as "Unknown Plugin"

Windows Presentation Foundation Google Update

Tried unticking Hardware acceleration and restart. No difference to speed.

Any other Suggestions?

Phil

Some added toolbars and virus protection programs are known to cause issues. Disable them and see if there is any difference.

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then Firefox. Any changes?
