This problem only occurs on some emails, not all. The normal behavior to add a new email person to my address book was to right click on the email address in the email header and select "Add to Address Book". The email is added to the address book. After I add the contact, I can then right-click again and select EDIT contact. Even though the contact is added correctly, Thunderbird doesnt seem to be aware that it happened. Even if I restart the software. So if I right-click on the contact, the Add Contact choice is still there and there is no EDIT contact choice.

Cant figure out what is wrong.

I've installed Thunderbird 128.13.0esr (64 bit) on a Chromebook Linux sandbox and copied the email profile from a Windows 10 system.

Emails etc have copied fine and the program works but whenever I open a new message window it opens with zero height & minimum width [see attached image]. In fact any new window (e.g. About Thunderbird) does the same. The windows can be resized but that size is not used when a similar window is opened.

I've tried deleting xulstore.json as suggested in some posts - when Thunderbird is run again the file is recreated but the problem remains.

It looks like some settings are corrupted to the point where they cannot be reinitialised (e.g. location of settings) but I need some pointers where to look next.

My Thunderbird (version 115.12.2) is running on a Windows 11 system. My profile has multiple accounts configured as IMAP to multiple email services. I also have the Status Bar and Activity indicator enabled. Randomly, both indicators will show busy for an extended period of time. When I view this in the Activity Manager I see one or more folders hung for 10 or 20 minutes downloading one message out of several. This occurs in multiple accounts and servers.

I have researched this and attempted the fixes presented. I have cleared the cache files and compacted and rebuild email folders as suggested, but the slow update still occurs.

Then I decided to try and capture a ProMon.exe trace to see what is happening. What I found was Thunderbird.exe was spending all of the time while hung access the following file: C:\Users\MyUser\AppData\LocalLow\Intel\ ShaderCache\4a5eb0e65e559fc08e65ecb2fa9d650817ae895582a7a7ede162866d3e47a05a, like it was stuck in a loop.

When Thunderbird is operating normally, it is accessing this file but only for short period of times. Research says that it is ok to delete the files in this folder. I did that and it seemed to help for awhile. But it started happening again.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is there a Windows thing to look further into? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same original problem as https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1508740 , and from the same time period, but across 4 of 5 email addresses, with additional problems. All given answers then & now on this website have completely failed me.

I have 4 emails on the same server, which use IMAP, so there is no way for me to adjust any msg retrieval settings, because they don't exist. Surprisingly, one of these 4 emails actually does work in sending & receiving, but I got different error with it, just now! I also have one gmail affected by this original 2 year old problem, as well.

Closing program, restarting computer, and downloading TB updates all do not work. I uninstalled/reinstalled TB, and all of my profiles & emails were surprisingly intact with no deletes (yes, I backed them up in another folder first), and the problem persists upon reinstall of TB, on the exact same emails as the original problem. Antivirus & firewalls are off. Server said it wasn't them. I'm using Windows 11, McAfee antivirus, and the newest TB dld is Eclipse.

There is no distinct alphanumeric error message for the oldest problem, just the usual "Login to server with username failed. Retry/Enter New Password/Cancel." All passwords are correct. None of my passwords are "saved" in the TB program, and I'm having trouble locating where to tell it to do otherwise.

Screencap and copy/paste attempts to grab second error message failed, but it looked like "RETR failed, one message expunged." So far, it's a one-time error, which I can live with. All emails for that ONE working email are fine.

When I attempt to sign into Google, it takes me to a troubleshooting page https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050?hl=en asking me to clear cache & cookies, if I'm using Chrome (which I'm not), instead of just a login to retrieve my gmail.

My emails have been sitting on the servers for 2 YEARS and I am at my wits' end - please help!!!

I'm not getting notifications for received mail. Thunderbird 142 on Fedora Linux KDE, Microsoft Exchange email account. The emails arrive but I get no notification. Calendar notifications work fine.

In the settings I have enabled "Show an alert" when new messages arrive, and "Use the system notification". Unchecking "Use the system notification" does not help, still no notifications.

I think this is a critical issue, as I may miss important work emails.

Have not found any discussion or solution to the problem.

Hi,

Now i have Thunderbird 140.2.1esr (32-bit) installed on Windows 10.

No change in settings and now, from one mail address cannot send mail. I can receive mails. There is no issue from hosting, checked.

Found the issue and i believe is due to the new Thunderbird rules after an update (maybe). Let me explain:

On Thunderbird i have multiple accounts, with different SMTP settings (multiple hosting servers). ON SMTP settings, Thunderbird has a default choice.

When "Server 1 SMTP default setting" is used, e-mails are sent successfully from "Server 1". But when i try to send from "Server 2" e-mail account, i receive an auto-e-mail with subject "Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender" and body "SMTP AUTH is required for users under this sender domain", FROM the mail address of "Server 1" (not Server 2)

When i change default smtp settings to "Server 2 SMTP", e-mails from "Server 2" are sent successfully. And, surprisingly, also from from "Server 1".

When changing back to "Server 1 SMTP default setting" the situation re-appears.

What is your point of view and what solution can be implemented?

Hi,

Thunderbird: 142.0 (64-bit)

With Account Hub

When I try to add a mail account that I deleted before, I receive an error message:

  • Error Creating Account
  • Incoming server already exists.

When I add my email account, I receive the message, "Can't find a server," and Thunderbird adds the incoming server configuration somewhere. It's not in the "Account Settings" menu.

Without Account Hub

I deleted my profile folder and started from scratch.

I tried to use the same configuration settings I have in the mobile version of Thunderbird, but without success. Unfortunately, it's not possible to import the settings from Thunderbird Mobile.

I have the same problem with the Account Hub, or without it. How can I fix this problem?

Many thanks,

Hi Support,

have been running Thunderbird for half a year, no issues, suddently last week, I get an error on one of my POP3 accounts in same Thunderbird program.

Error reads "Kunne ikke skrive mailen i mailmappen. Sørg for at du har skriverettigheder til filsystemet, og at du har nok diskpladstil at kopiere mailmappen"

According to my provider, it is a problem with my email program.

I have tried to compress, archieve to generate more room, even restartet, program and computer. Still same issue. Still have 23 GB of free disk spare on my drive.

Any ideas

Starting last night, Thunderbird 140.2.0esr has trouble connecting to Comcast email servers. In my case, I am getting an error that the connection was reset. Sometimes, if I close TB and re-open, it will connect for a bit and download new mail, but later fail. This is using the POP3 servers. On the Comcast forums, others are reporting similar issues. https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/email/unable-to-connect-to-pop3-server-this-morning/68af0959e127b572a1266228

I don't have TB on my Android phone, but Outlook is also having issues with forcing me to sign in, and that can take 2-3 tries, and will . The Yahoo Mail and FairEmail apps do work on the phone without problems. These all use the IMAP servers.
