After downloading Google Chrome this morning, I can no longer access Firefox even after removing both and re-downloading Firefox, it just says 'connecting' and never does connect, can you help?

When I tried to open Firefox, I noticed that it had apparently been 'modified' around the exact time I would have been downloading Google Chrome, which is why I suspect a correlation.

Not very clear with the problem around here. Is it that:

1) Firefox browser is itself not opening (but you are able to open other browsers eg crome, IE etc)

2) Firefox browser opens but when you try to open any page it says 'connecting' and never opens the page.

If it is case (1) then most probably the Firefox browser is not getting installed properly. Search for the directory where you installed the same and delete that entire directory then try re-installing (preferably giving a restart to the machine before doing so)

If it is case (2) then you need to check the Internet settings that are present in the Firefox browser.

Edit -> Preferences -> Choose 'Advanced' tab -> choose 'Network' tab. Click on connection 'Settings...'.

Check that the proper option is selected and that there are no wrong values/IP addresses entered for the choice that is selected

Or if by any chance you are not able to connect to the Internet itself, then you need to check your network settings

Hope this helps ....

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
