why saved web pages have onedrive in save string

Dennis Crain

file:///C:/Users/crain/OneDrive/Documents/Desktop/Internet%20Archive.htm Most of the time the saved page will not open. I usually save to the desktop, to be filed later. Why is this such a long string, and can I simplify so that the saved link at least opens?

OneDrive is a parallel, cloud-based file system associated with your Microsoft login. It's possible that your default Download folder in Firefox is set to the one under OneDrive, so when you click around into a different folder, you're still in OneDrive.

First, could you check that setting? Here's how:

On the Settings page, in the little search box, type save to bring up the relevant section of settings. Here you can see what is set as the Downloads folder and click Browse to find and/or change it. In the Select Folder dialog that pops up, click in the address bar to see the full path.

If it shows a OneDrive path, that might be the source of the problem. See whether you can change to your local Downloads folder. If necessary, you can get there the hard way:

C:\Users\<your-username>\Downloads

Second, you may need to move the saved files from the Download folder under OneDrive to the local one on your computer. I don't think Firefox's Downloads list allows doing this. You can launch the folder from there, but I think you need to move the files using Windows Explorer.

Now... there might be a global hack to stop Microsoft from trying to force your saves onto OneDrive, but in a quick search, I didn't see anything I could vouch for. More searching is needed.
