Installation problem
I installed Thunderbird on a new (used) computer recently, and for some reason it was always offline when I logged on. When I asked for new mail, it told me "you're offline" but gave me a way to connect and download. I should have left well enough alone, but...
One day I decided I had to fix it. I discovered that it had been set up as an IMAP, instead of POP3, as I have been using for years. But I couldn't find a way to switch it over to POP3. I got so frustrated, I decided to just delete the program, and reinstall it.
But now when I'm trying to set up the new program, it keeps telling me that I'm offline (which I'm not!) and so I can't even re-install it. So I'm writing to you from the computer on which Thunderbird has been running for years, hoping someone can tell me how to get past the "you're offline" curse!
Please!!!

In the Offline section of Options/General/Network & Disk Space, set it to 'Automatically...'.
