How can I removie the giant hyberfil.sys file to speed up Firefox on 1GB Athlon XP netbook and Win 7 Pro Desktop?

more options

My Athlon, Win XP, 1GB netbook (and also my quad-core, HP, 200GB desktop media pc) have ongoing issues with: - slow boot time up to 5 minutes (!) to get to the Windows desktop, - slowness starting Firefox - and slowness/crashing Firefox - excessive buffering of streaming video of any resolution (HD or "low" quality)

I have done: - Puran Utilities maintenance functions: chk disk, clean disk, defrag, registry clean, registry defrag - yesterday I removed Avast antivirus and disabled Macafee Site Advisor as a test. Performance improved! - firefox indicates "average" health - removed add-ons and extensions on Firefox temporarily - no improvement - Firefox is latest release - Java is working - Adobe Shockwave/Flash are current and working - Speedtest indicates broadband connection is good - excessive startup programs removed from system startup menu

BOTH pcs have enormous hiberfil.sys files and SystemManager indicates initially they max-out resources when starting.

How can I remove that file, without harming the system? I cannot disable hibernate/sleep on the XP (netbook) or on Win 7 Pro (the desktop) systems.

Thanks for ideas.

Hibernation and the file you are referring to is a result of having the Windows Hibernation function enabled. To safely remove the file and to discontinue using hibernation, follow the link below:

Delete Hiberfil.sys...
