I am unable to update to 38.0.5
I keep getting the pop up saying I must update to 38.0.5 but each time I try it fails after restarting firefox and reports that I need to check if there is another Firefox operating on the computer, which there is not; I have checked all running processes and services. I tried to do the full instal in English (British) from the mozilla web site it down loads the full file but then in my downloads it dispalys "FAILED". I don't want to uninstall firefox and then reinstall because of all my saved data, favourites, passwords, apps etc. How do I cure this problem? I'm on Windows 7.

I have just found a way to work around the problem. I could not download and instal 38.0.5 or even a full re-instal when using Firefox as my browser. So I closed Firefox and opened IE, which I never normally use. I then searched for the Mozilla website, found the download and instal the full English, (British), version. Clicked on download it then did a full upgrade and opened Firefox which now displays in "About" that I have the latest version 38.0.5. Strange that IE would download it but Firefox would'nt.

Every once in a while the internal updater in Firefox will not properly download the update. The workaround is to go to mozilla.org and download a fresh version of Firefox and install it (just as you did). Glad you figured it out!
Hi Tyler, thanks for the reply. Yes the complete fresh version of Firefox did work BUT what is slightly worrying that even on Mozilla.org I could not download the full version when using Firefox as my Browser; I had to use Internet Explorer for the first time since I originaly bought my laptop nearly a year ago. Like most Firefox users I really don't like using IE.
