I lost a group of bookmarks under the heading called HANDY and I used restore function but it did not work. I tried several days of backups but none of them changed the bookmarks showing.

Note that current Firefox versions show the number of bookmarks in a JSON backup as part of the name: xxx in bookmarks-####-##-##_xxx.json, so you can see if there is a backup with more bookmarks (different number count).

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
