Yesterday Thunderbird updated itself to 78.2.2 which has disabled Signature Switch, which I used virtually everyday. Is there an alternative add-on to provide the same functionality? If not how do I revert back to the previous version of Thunderbird until Achim completes the rewrite of Signature Switch?

Signature Switch addon extension version 2.0.0 is now available. Please note this is a complete rewrite done by the author. Now the addon is a pure MailExtension; meaning it has limited access to resources from the outside. So...no you cannot get it to 'import' anything / point to a html file you have previous created within Thunderbird Write window and saved as HTML file. BUT you can copy and paste the content of previous created html files.

Click on 'Add new signature' Click on 'pencil' icon You can open your previously created html files with Notepad, copy all the content and then paste it into the 'HTML' section Give same name as previous, so you don't get confused and click on Save'

You should see those options in the drop down list, just like previous version making it easy to select.

To launch your v78 profile in v68, run Thunderbird with the --allow-downgrade switch to bypass the profile downgrade protection feature. Uninstall v78, install v68 from https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/, go to Start > Run and type:

thunderbird.exe -p --allow-downgrade

Press Enter then choose the profile, tick the work offline option and launch Tbird, then change update options to disable automatic update.

As an alternative to Signature Switch, consider Quicktext:

Quicktest appears that it will probably be a workable replacement for Signature Switch until Achim completes the rewrite, once I had worked out how to use it! The Help file is not very clear, and having to type in the HTML tags is not very user friendly. One point in Quicktest that I have still not worked out is that the Help test refers to "the Quicktext menu below the formatting toolbar." I am not getting the Quicktext menu below the formatting toolbar, and can only use the signatures I've set up by right clicking. How do I get the Quicktext menu below the formatting toolbar?

You need to set at least a template in a group. For signature indeed it's not simple - you can send to you a new mail only with signature and after that wiew source code. That code goes on that template...

HELP!!!

I'm using Thunderbird 78.4.1 I'm using Signature Switch version 2.2.2

You can discover what version of SS you are using in 'Addons', select 'Extensions' as per your first image. Click on the three dot menu icon and select 'Manage'. The 'Details' tab info tells you what version you are using and whether you allow auto updates etc. The three dot menu in this view allows you to select 'Options' which is where you can add signatures.

So first make sure you are using the correct up to date version that will work with your version of Thunderbird. Then restart Thunderbird.

In my Write' window, I recall the 'Signature switch' icon (SS) was auto located to the far right next to 'Attach' and I had to move it to the left so it was next to the 'Save' on toolbar. If the 'Signature SWitch' is not displaying: 'View' > 'Toolbars' > 'Customise' may have the 'SS' icon which you can drag and drop onto the toolbar. Once you have the 'SS' icon on the Write 'Composition Toolbar', you can also access/create signatures, click on the SS icon and select 'Options' which will open in a new tab.

Bloody annoying! I hate dealing with "improvements" and usually don't bother with updates as they're often more trouble than they're worth.

I tried reverting to the previous version (I'm running Mac) and of course I got a message about "incompatible profile" or something and having to create a new profile, reenter Accout settings etc.

On Mac, where are the Thunderbird profiles etc. stored? I'll go into Time Machine and replace those as well so I can run the previous version without hassles.

(And why is this page in Finnish? No indication of this in the URL)

I'm not sure why you posted a comment that does not offer any help to the person asking the question about Signature Switch. Did you post a comment in the wrong question ?

re :(And why is this page in Finnish? No indication of this in the URL) No idea because it is in English to me. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1304395

Oops... Not enough coffee this morning. I thought I was adding to Peter V's original complaint :( I'll try and find the original thread and repost the question :)

And yes- now the page - or more correctly, the Preview & Post buttons are indeed in English!

ADDENDUM Well, I went through Thunderbird Support and only found a link to this page on this subject, so I still want to know how to completely revert to the previous version, which presumably also includes locating the previous version's Profile. Hopefully it isn't part of Firefox's profile or it will likely foul up FF as well!
