Hello community. My company decided, right before Christmas, to force-migrate all e-mail addresses from the functioning old servers to "Exchange Online", which not only made the web-browser based access more complicated, but also required changes in Thunderbird. While they provided instructions, which I slavishly followed (despite being usually rather hand around the computer), I still cannot send e-mails with my work address - they get timed out. My company IT are notoriously unwilling to help with issues on the private computer and have recommended even beforehand to from now on only use the web-based access to avoid trouble - which is laughable, for me, as I need my e-mails offline as well. So before harassing them more loudly, I wanted to make sure it's a fault on their end not on mine.

Some details: New server is outlook.office365.com, SMTP port 587. Security level is STARTTLS, authentification OAuth2. These are the changed options requested by the company IT. The window popping up when trying to send a message asks me to chose a certificate for athentification and suggests "Adobe Conetent Certificate 10-7". Neither installing this manually, accepting, or changing something under "further options" changes the outcome that the message will be timed out. As my private e-mail also uses port 587, and it still works perfectly normal, this port is not generally blocked by the windows defender or antivirus (I use Kaspersky).

Maybe someone has an idea what it happening here? Or knows if to slve it by installing a particular different certificate?

I just sent a message in community forum (I think it was) about how some of my messages were loaded as raw html code, tonight. Well, I just found an interesting temporary fix: I send the offending message to "junk", then say it isn't junk, and send it back to my inbox: then it displays as it should. I tried to edit my original message here on Thunderbird with this new "fix", but was unable to. And it still doesn't solve why messages in my inbox load this way to begin with; but I thought it was interesting as a diagnostic feature.

I am still wondering whether to reinstall Thunderbird...

This has nothing to do with virus scans, because I don't have any going 24/7, that I'm aware of. Maybe Windows, though-- I'm never quite sure what it is doing. But no other 3rd party virus scans. Thanks.

I saw another comment on here that suggested one needed to repair folder; it seems to me I'm always repairing my inbox (because I thought perhaps I wasn't receiving all my messages, but the problem may have been from the sender). I don't have any paid virus scan regularly scanning my PC-- except maybe Windows Defender, or whatever it's called these days? I am using Win 11. But I don't think I have any viruses, either. I often run Win Defender or free Malwarebytes-- but not whilst receiving email. I have never had a virus that I'm aware of. The problem just started. Should I re-install Thunderbird? Thx,

Aiming to reduce memory used by my email. I have both Sent and Sent Mail folders. My preference would be to eliminate the duplication that takes place with the two. I understand that I can not unsubscribe from Sent Mail. Could Sent content be reduced to the items that are NOT in Sent Mail? Alternatives? My Sent folder contains more older files which I would like to retain but do not want to "try" something that MIGHT eliminate them. I am on a Mac23 with Latest Sonoma. Thunderbird on Gmail.

So I used to (I thought) be able to select text in a message and hit forward and a write window came up with just the selected text in it and not the entire message (including headers).

I distinctly remember having to go extra steps when I actually wanted to include all the headers in a message and now that is the default?

The expected behaviour (selected text being the only thing in the message) works as it used to when using "reply".

How do I revert the behaviour of the forward to the same way a reply works?

And if you happen to know, when and why did it change?

I tried to send an email and got a message saying "The message could not be sent because connections to Outgoing server (SMTP) pop3.gmail,com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify your Outgoing server(SMTP) are correct and try again". I checked and they seem right but I cannot even send an email from one account to the other. The same message appears and I don't believe anything has been changed, aside from adding another address, that I know of.

Not sure which thing solved it, but I

Tried thunderbird in windows safe mode with networking and new emails were downloaded properly with no error message.

Then I restarting in normal windows mode and tried Thunderbird again. I got no warning but maybe there was no new emails on that account.

Thunderbird asked to compress the files and I said yes.

Then I tested all send and receive and all good with no warning.

I've had this problem for about a month now. The last few thunderbird updates have been performing very slow on my system. I frequently get the 'wait or force quit' dialog popups when trying to use thunderbird. When viewing emails with HTML content, it often has long pauses where nothing happens and the UI is unresponsible.

I do have multiple email accounts, a lot of email (multiple folders with 20K+), and irc open. CPU and memory utilization are fairly low on the PC. It's a desktop with a 11900k + 32GB RAM + nvme m.2 pcie gen 3 ssd + intel arc a750.

I'm noticing issues on wired (via powerline) or wireless (802.11ax)

Emails Not Arriving on One Computer

I have a client that has three laptops running Windows 11 and the latest build of Thunderbird. She has the same three email addresses (MSN.com, outlook.com and gmail.com) added to TB on all three computers. When sending a test message to one of the email addresses they arrive in the inbox on just two of the computers and not on the third one. All three email accounts have identical POP/SMTP settings and "Leave mail on server" is checked. Any ideas as to why just one of the computers would not receive inbound email messages? When I added the account to the computer in question, there were no error messages, and the account addition was successful. Any thoughts as to what might cause this?

I am trying to consolidate emails using the Thunderbird identity feature. I have a single email account call it acct1@yahoo.com. I have three other email addresses that get forwarded to Yahoo, call them acct2@pobox.com, acct3@pobox.com, and acct4@hostmonster.com. I can send emails to all of these accounts. In Thunderbird yahoo is the default identity and the other three are alternate identities. The outgoing server settings are all identical (see screenshot). I can send emails using the acct1 and acct2 identities, but not the other two. This is puzzling because acct2 and acct3 are both forwarded identically.

The error message I get is not very helpful: Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Request failed; Mailbox unavailable. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again.

Starting with, I think, the latest update of Thunderbird, it beeps when it shows me a new message. I do NOT like my computer pestering me with noises.

I went into Settings and turned off "Play a Sound" as shown in the attached screenshot. (Why it got turned on -- apparently as part of an update -- mystifies me.)

So why is Thunderbird still beeping at me?

My message filters do not run. They appear to be properly set up. They don't work, even when I select "Run Filters on Folder", under the Tools Menu.

Here are my Filter Rules for one of them:

  • Apply filter when: Manually Run (checked) Getting New Mail: Filter before Junk Classification (also checked)
  • Match "Any of the following"
  • From Is (sender's email address)
  • Perform these actions: Move Message To (Junk on my email address)

I am using Thunderbird version 128.1esr (64 bit), Thunderbird Windows MSIX package, Thunderbird-MSIX-10 My system is Windows 11 Home version 23H2

9-4-2024--For months the filters for my messages have not ALL worked right. Some of the older ones may work. The new filters disappear. I'm thinking it is because the Create Filter page does not display all the way to the bottom of the page so I can see and click ok to save it. Please fix this so the Create Filter page will RESIZE so I can save the filters I create. Mozilla Thunderbird programmers--Can't you write a program better than this?? Why can't you fix a problem that has been there for months maybe a year? Whatever is causing the problem please fix it.
