i'm on a macbook pro. the firefox icon is in my dock. when i'm in another app and i want to go to the firefox window i access several times daily, i'm instead brought to the window i went to most recently and i have to tap the icon again to get to the one i want and this happens every time i tap the icon. i've rebooted several times, i've cleared cache except for passwords. i don't know what else to do and it's really annoying

How can I customize url and search fields to remove the search engine dropdown, and ideally make the URL fields ONLY work with URLs and the search field only work with my default search engine?

A recent update has completely broken my muscle memory: I'm used to typing Cmd-L to move to the URL field, then a single tab to move to the search field, where I immediately start typing.

Now, that single tab moves me to the search engine dropdown, which I don't even want to use, so every time I try to search I have to stop and back up and it's badly affecting my workflow.

How can I either change the tab order or just get rid of the dropdown completely? If I want to use a different search engine, I can always just go to their page instead of using the search bar.

Also, is the URL field now exactly the same as the search field? I really want them to behave differently - I don't want to touch search if all I'm doing is re-visiting a URL in my history. Is there a way to have a URL field that ONLY works with URLs and avoids search, and a separate search field that works with my default search engine?

Suddenly with the latest update, I'm seeing "send link to mobile" when I right-click on a link. I understand this is useful for many people but I will never use it and would like to remove it from the already-cluttered context menu. I don't see any instructions for doing that, and couldn't find it in about:config. It's frustrating to have something suddenly added without my consent and with no information on how to remove it.

I am using Firefox version 157.0.1 (64-bit) (mint-001-1.0) on Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon. 4 Monitors are connected. In a previous version, don't know which but it is not long time ago, Firefox opened, when I clicked on the task bar icon, always on the monitor, where I moved the mouse to. Now in the writen version above, it is opening on the monitor, where the last Firefox window was closed.

It used to be so easy to tell Firefox where to open a new window, but that feature is gone now. Or is there maybe a setting somewhere to turn it back on? I didn't find anything in about:config, though.

Please do not confuse the behavior described here with the System Settings feature > Moving and Resizing Windows > Location of newly opened Windows, which works differently and is, unfortunately, very impractical.

I hope you can give me the key tip

I usually use rightclick+T to open new tab. And now sometimes it do a screenshot instead. Specially in some website that highlighting a link will popup an ui. So I want to disable this screenshot shortcut (but keep the open new tab shortcut).

Is there anyway to do it? Thank you!

Xubuntu 24.04.5 Firefox 158

Firefox used to position a new window on the screen in a somewhat predictable manner prior to 158.

For example, if there was a blank space on the screen between other windows, the browser would locate it and be placed there. A new instance would also appear on the active screen (I have two: left and right with a single window manager spanning both) where the mouse was located. Now the window is just placed in some arbitrary locations and may appear on the non-active screen.

I have a number of scripts that load various sets of windows on the screen (typically a number of xfce4-terminals and the browser) which used to pretty much work, but no longer as the browser windows can show up any place and must then be relocated. When I start a new session I have eight distinct desktops with many versions of Firefox on each. It is tiresome to have to relocate one browser window after another.

Is there any option I can set that would revert to the older screen placement algorithm?

Also, I asked this before and don't remember getting any satisfactory response. Why is the -geometry flag not supported on Firefox any longer? What's the opposition to giving the user control over this? I want some command-line method for accurately setting the size (WxH) and position (X:Y) of the browser window on the screen. Am I missing something here?

I use middle-click to close the tabs and move and select tabs around a lot and often misclick on a button by accident and I find that really annoying and tedious to always have to scrutinize the buttons before clicking.

I want to hide all of these buttons.

I have tried userchrome and etc... user scripts, that does not work reliably.

There is no simple way to add mailto:"mail.proton.me in settings.

I can delete Google but there's no option add an alternative. Settings is looking for an app, not an email provider address. I had to modify handlers.json to make it work.

When I resize a regular Firefox window (in Windows 11), I can resize it to have a quite a small width.

If I pin the same website to the taskbar to make it into a web app, now I can't resize it to the same width, and the windows appear locked to a much larger width.

This is annoying because specific web apps can be resized a lot smaller to fit that specific site's interface. If anything, I would want to make the windows smaller more often than I would with regular Firefox windows.

If there's a setting to turn off this width limit, I would really appreciate it!

sense the last update, the web page returns to top of page each time I leave the page and go back to it. It didn't do the before and it is very inconvenient for me. I can't find a setting to get it back to where it was? Please give me steps to salve my problem?

So I'm helping sort out an individual who is very computer illiterate and I'm getting them to use Firefox.. but when it updates, the window that tells you what's new pops up... now this is helpful for most! but for this individual it really confuses them and they tend to call me about it every time... so I'm wondering if their is a way to disable the popup window, to make it less confusing for them without disabling the updates entirely?

In other browsers (Brave, for example, and Chrome) I can open a drop down menu, and while holding Ctrl choose multiple sites to view. In Firefox, if I drop the menu and choose one site, the menu disappears before I can choose others, even if I hold the Ctrl key. I have to reopen the menu for every site I want from that menu. Is there a way to make FF act like other browsers in this respect?

But to avail the above I have to click on View Page Source option. How to correct the setting of Firefox to have this directly.

The widget continues to display Fredericksburg instead of New York City, where I am located. When I attempt to change the location by entering "New York," "New York, NY," or ZIP code "10032," Firefox does not display any matching locations. The only available option is "Use current location." I am using Firefox version 157.0.1 (64-bit), and the browser is up to date. Troubleshooting steps already completed: 1. Restarted Firefox several times. 2. Disabled and re-enabled the weather widget. 3. Enabled macOS Location Services specifically for Firefox. 4. Verified that browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.weather.locationSearchEnabled is set to true. 5. Confirmed that Firefox's built-in VPN is disabled. 6. Successfully changed AccuWeather's location to New York. 7. Confirmed that Safari and Microsoft Edge recognize New York. Despite these steps, Firefox continues to display Fredericksburg. More recently, the widget has also displayed the error message: "Weather data is not available right now." My network uses Firewalla with ProtonVPN. I would prefer to maintain my current security configuration. Could you please explain how to reset or manually change Firefox's weather widget location to New York City and restore accurate weather information? Thank you for your assistance.
