After a PC reboot, when I launched firefox, all of my data was gone (extensions, bookmarks, passwords, etc) and it was as if I was launching Firefox for the first time. I wasn't sure if something happened to cause firefox to become corrupted, so I did a complete reinstall (uninstalled firefox + deleted all mozilla folders + deleted mozilla registry entries).

After reinstalling, Firefox now does not ask where to save files. Both "Always ask you where to save files" and "Ask whether to open or save files" are enabled in firefox settings. browser.download.alwaysOpenInSystemViewerContextMenuItem , browser.download.alwaysOpenPanel , and browser.download.always_ask_before_handling_new_types in about:config are all true as well.

Is there anything I can do to fix this issue and get firefox working as normal?

I have the settings set to ask where to download files I'm saving to my computer. When downloading and/or printing a document, Firefox saves a copy to my desktop even after the "save to" prompt and saving the file to a specific location. How can I stop this?

Thank you in advance!

My settings: Downloads: save files to: [custom default folder, unimportant] Always ask you where to save files: ENABLED

Applications: PDFs: Open In Firefox (because when the browser has such a nice built-in pdf viewer of course I would like to use it)

Expected behavior: Browser will open the dialog box for where to save the pdf, save the pdf, then open it in the in-browser viewer from the location it just saved to. Or possibly: save the file to TEMP and then open it in browser, I can see the argument for that behavior, though it wouldn't be my first instinct.

Actual behavior: Browser blindly saves the pdf to the specified default folder, then opens it in the in-browser viewer.

What is the actual point of the ALWAYS ask checkbox here? From what I can find extant on the forums the devs somehow don't seem to consider this a bug, so does anyone know how to wrangle the config page and/or some kind of extension into producing the actual logical behavior for these settings?

If I click "Display the progress of ongoing downloads" I can see what is currently downloading, but then when I click "Show All Downloads", nothing shows on the next screen. I've rebooted and restarted Firefox several times, on one or two occasions items DO come up on that next screen, but usually nothing is showing.

One of my jobs requires me to download work related documents on my personal pc. I would like to assign the website of the platform we use to download those files in a specific folder so i could delete them easily afterwards. Are there any plans to add such a feature to the browser? Is there a way to do it already? (without having to use the "always ask" option) Thanks in advance. Cheers from Uruguay

Hi there I have the problem that my firefox can save any file or download on my other drives since they arent event show as an option. I did a little research and read that by default in linux for security reason was unable to, but asking in the official forum of my distro (cachyos), they can save thing in other drives with no problems.

So i wanted to know why i dont?, my firefox installation is native at installing the dristro and having all perimission but it cant see my drives except the one is installed to (and where my OS is).

The only thing different i actually do is the folder where my current user info is saved, i moved the files from my user but with the files i had from my old windows session to impor my saved sites, favorites, etc.

Can you help me to be able to save files or images on my other drives?, thank you for time.

I use a portal for work and am required to download a variety of documents for specific tasks. When I download certain documents, predominantly Word documents, they are saved with a file name that ends with the word attachment, e.g. 'abcd.docx, attachment'

This does not happen with any other browsers that I use and I know the obvious answer is to use those but I'm interested as to whether anybody else has had this problem and whether they have found a solution?

Firefox used to save unknown files according to the save files setting. i.e. ask where to save files. Now if opens unknown files as text in a new tab.

How can the correct behavior be restored?

Alternately, can the Linux snap be fixed to allow saving of new file types? {The procedure shown in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-firefox-behavior-when-open-file is not present in the firefox 141 snap.

I am unable to enter or browse for a location to save downloads in the settings for this browser. The box to type in a destination does not allow me to type any text and the button labeled "Browse" does not pop up any additional window after I click it for me to choose a destination folder for downloads. I need to be able to alter these settings or will have to resort to using a different browser all together. I have been able to modify these same settings within Safari. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

On macOS the previous behaviour in Firefox was that the text content from the drag&drop was sent to the application I dropped to (and still works this way when doing so to the open application). But now Firefox downloads the image preview that I use to enable the drag&drop with into a temp folder, giving it a serial name. Is there any setting to revert back to the old behaviour? And if, not can you implement one please?

In Settings I have "Save files to" set to Desktop. Under Applications, I have PDF Files set to "Save File." If I download any other type of file, it is saved to the Desktop, as instructed. However, when I open Firefox, the Save dialog shows PDF files will be saved to Downloads. If I change it to Desktop, the file will be saved to the Desktop. Other types of file, as mentioned above, show Desktop as the default in the Save dialog. Once I set Desktop for a PDF file, it will be remembered until I close and reopen Firefox. It will then switch back to the Downloads folder, but again, only for PDF files. Why? This is something that has stated happening sometime over the last couple of months.

Hi

Recently, I have been testing the functionality of my website using Puppeteer, but I found an issue with the file names when operating the Firefox browser through Puppeteer. When the user clicks the download button, my JS code generates a series of special file names. However, when I use Puppeteer, the file names seem to be truncated. Additionally, I have configured the BIDI protocol while using Puppeteer.

For example: When I manually open the firfox browser and click download button, the file name I get is ANTLMonitoring_MRBTS-530377530377530377_Wroclaw_class._2!__________+-=~,*@#$^&*()¥'.{}[]*;中文Приве..*TEST_123_20251028-0409.csv But when I perform the same steps using Puppeteer, the downloaded file name is ANTLMonitoring_MRBTS-530377530377530377_Wroclaw_class._2!__________`+-=~,_@#$^&_().csv (puppeteer)

Comparison: ANTLMonitoring_MRBTS-530377530377530377_Wroclaw_class._2!__________`+-=~,_@#$^&_().csv (puppeteer) ANTLMonitoring_MRBTS-530377530377530377_Wroclaw_class._2!__________+-=~,*@#$^&*()¥'.{}[]_;中文Приве.._TEST_123_20251028-0409.csv (Manual)

In both manual testing and Puppeteer testing, I used the default browser configuration. The operating system tested is Windows 11, and the browser version is 144.0 (64-bit). Can anyone help me with this issue? Thank you very much!
