Hotmail acts weird in Firefox now. Right-click on the mouse to open or download anything always returns you to the Inbox.

Ever since Firefox did an update, I have had issues with Hotmail. Inside of any email, if you right-click the mouse to open a file or photo, it returns you to the Inbox. Very frustrating. You also cannot right-click a URL to go to a web page listed inside any email. It automatically returns you to the Inbox. One answer in the forum suggested entering some code but it was for a unrelated issue. Also, there was no specific detailed information on how to enter this code. This should really should be a Firefox fix.

Only do so if you know what you are doing or are following trustworthy advice.

You are following steps provided on the official Mozilla support forum...

It's like telling someone with stomach pain to do their own endoscopy and remove any suspicious lumps.

No, you don't even need to scrub up for this. We can break it down a little further:

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste stylo and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the layout.css.stylo-blocklist.enabled preference to switch the value from false to true

(D) Double-click the layout.css.stylo-blocklist.blocked_domains preference and set the value to live.com and click OK.

Then exit/quit Firefox and start it up again to make the change effective.

This is a fix that needs to come from Firefox.

It should come in 1-2 weeks.

Another workaround is to use the Reading pane on the right side of the Inbox (this is an Outlook display setting instead of a Firefox setting):

There have been issues reported with Outlook (Hotmail).

This can happen if you use the Reading pane and click a link. In that case it can happen that you activate content that is under the reader pane. This will probably be fixed in Firefox 58.0.2 to be released next week.

  • [/questions/1201654#answer-1070457] When using my hotmailaccount in Firefox I have to reload the mailaccount constantly due to the pointer (hand) vanish and is replaced with the arrow!

A possible workaround that you can try is to modify these prefs on the about:config page:

  • layout.css.stylo-blocklist.enabled => true
  • layout.css.stylo-blocklist.blocked_domains => live.com

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Per the instructions provided: Warning: Modifying preferences can, in rare circumstances, break Firefox, Thunderbird or the Mozilla Suite, or can cause strange behavior. Only do so if you know what you are doing or are following trustworthy advice.

Unfortunately, most non-techies don't know what we are doing and clicking "I accept the risk!" really isn't an option. Going back into the code and tampering with it will "break Firefox". If you are experienced enough that you understand the instructions and are able to complete them then there is no need to worry. You can wait awhile until a Firefox version gets released to fix this issue or use workarounds like not using the Reading pane or use the right-click context menu instead of left-clicking a link or see if you can find a spot where the link works and you see the link as usual appear at the bottom when you hover a link.
