could you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

please also run a full scan of your system with the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner in particular.

I also just got done running a malwarebytes scan. It found 116 and I have the log of it as well if you would like it?

the exfriendalert software that you have installed might be adware, at least that's the appearance i'm getting when i google for it.

My 14 yr old daughter uses this laptop so Im sure its something she has put on it. Is that something I can removed by uninstalling in programs?

according to http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/ExFriendAlert-16686-program.aspx that should be possible, yes! i'm no expert in malware so i'm not sure there is much information that i can gather from a malwarebytes log file except the recommendation to remove all detected instances. please also clean your system with adwcleaner, since this is a very useful tool primarily specialised in catching adware that is hooking into a browser.

I am running the adwcleaner now. And I went into my programs and uninstalled the exfriendalert

I can't provide a full solution to your problem, but I can tell you right now that AVG is not going to get you anywhere at all. I recommend Avast! Free Antivirus. I had a Windows XP netbook that was having a lot of issues, and when I scanned it with AVG it said there was nothing wrong whatsoever. I then proceeded to delete AVG and run a full system scan with Avast! instead to find out that my system was LOADED with malware and such. Delete AVG and find a better antivirus, such as Kaspersky or Avast!. I don't know if it'll fix your issue, but it'll protect your system a lot better than AVG.

I tried malaware check, virus check... then figured it out. In Control panel first uninstall the two SnapDo programmes (if you have them - solves the issue of not being able to change your irritating new search options)

Then look for a programme on the list in your Control Panel List called fst_za_17 That's the little naughty that is messing with you... After uninstalling it I FINALLY fixed the freaking issue.
