History and Tracking is set to not save, and clear upon shut-down. However, when I restart if I open a new tab, previous pages (ie. MSN and any articles I read) show up on New Tab page as options. I like to keep browser history so that when I return to a page my "place" is kept. This doesn't happen in private browsing mode

Which privacy settings in particular are you referring to?

What was unclear? FF is set to clear history, etc at close. However, at next start previous articles, log-in pages, etc appear as New Tab options. Do I have to use Private browsing at all times, and if so, how do I keep what I wantfor easy return later?

slipooh, did you ever figure this out?

I've searched around the web and no one seems to have a fix for this. I don't under stand why history is being stored even when all history is cleared.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
