Also many functions from web pages have disappeared, such as "Submit" and "Pay". This occurs only on Mozilla Firefox, not on Internet Explorer (the latter I haven't used in several years until July 14th because of Firefox's malfunctions). My OS is Windows 7 and I have strong ESET NOD32 anti-virus and Malwarebytes malware programs which are updated daily. Sent July 16, 2012 to Mozilla Firefox’s Community Support.

Almost every single function disappeared from my G-mail and was replaced by an empty white box in a black frame. (Also the “Report A Bug” in the dropdown menu has disappeared from almost all of my several G-mail accounts.) Consequently, soon my G-mail capacity will be exceeded and I will not be able to send or receive e-mails.

The following functions which have disappeared include but are not limited to: (1) The "ALL, NONE," features above the inbox which enable you to checkmark and DELETE some or all of your e-mails (2) CHECKMARKS--you cannot checkmark the box to the left of your e-mails to designate it for deletion (3) FORMATTING-no more color, size, font, underline, bold, italicize, etc. features (4) the "OLDER" and "NEWER" e-mail arrows and buttons (4) the CONTACT list cannot be viewed except on the initial page because there are no more page advancing or regressing scroll arrows (5) the HYPERLINK insertion feature is gone (6) the IMAGE INSERTION feature is gone (7) etc., etc., etc.

Some of the words/labels are visible if I point my cursor inside the boxes where the words used to be but most are not visible even if I point the cursor on them--there's just an empty box, such as with font color.

These problems started on July 08th, 2012 despite the fact that my computer expert fixed the impending July 10th cybersecurity snafu long ago which the F.B.I. warned would occur on July 09th. (I wrote Google’s G-mail via "Report A Bug" 19 times since July 09th when the following problem occurred without receiving a reply.)

My gratitude in advance for a solution.

First, try to reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings. This simple step will eliminate many Firefox problems with only one click.

A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this: Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.

Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL

Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/.

Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

Cor-El, you are brilliant. Changing font and color are the things I did immediately prior to losing all function displays in Firefox. However, now I have several more problems. (1) in Tools>Options>Content there are no "Fonts & Colors", although I recall that there used to be. (2) I've repeatedly tried going to my e-mail from clicking on the Firefox icon but now the Firefox site always freezes and I have to constantly do Control>Alt>Delete to shut down and be able to do anything on the computer. The only way I was able to access this support site and reply to you was to click on the hyperlink in my Internet Explorer-accessed e-mail.

Thank you, Tyler, I'd already done everything you suggested except for resetting Firefox. Instinctively I wanted to do with Firefox the analogue of reloading a computer but I didn't know what it was called.

Today I tried to follow your suggestion to reset Firefox but not only did I not know how to do it, as of today my Firefox keeps freezing instantly and I must constantly force a shutdown. Also, I keept geting the error message that the webpage might not display correctly with the following messages of "syntax error" and "invalid character". And when the screen freezes I can't access anything else I already had on my page.

In effect, I cannot use Mozilla Firefox at all. The only way I could access it is to enter my G-mail via Internet Explorer then click on the hyperlink in the Firefox forum notice that you'd replied to me.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Reset creates a new profile and tries to import some settings from the old profile leaving the old profile intact.
