Hi there.

For the past 2 days, my firefox has been freezing up. That is, it stops moving and I can't do anything. It started randomly doing this yesterday and I can't possibly think of whats causing it, since google chrome is working fine.

All help appreciated. :)

Firefox hangs should help resolve this issue.

Thanks. Read the article, but none of the situations seem to apply to me. :S The concept of hanging, yes, but the actual situations theyre mentioning arent affecting me.

Originally it was just youtube doing it, then every site started doing it afterwards. Now it just "hangs" after being open for 10 seconds on any site.

hmm... Does it hang in Safe Mode?

more options

Yes. I just tried it and it was hanging again. :S

The first link you provided told me to scan my computer in-case, so I'll do that. I scanned my computer a week ago and I haven't done/gone anywhere that would give me a virus or malware, nor have I downloaded anything so I really dont know.

When was the last time you have cleared your cache?

more options

I don't even remember, it's been that long. I never actually clear my history for browsing, cookies or my cache. Only my downloads.

So i cleared it now just incase. Still hanging.

Do you have any missing plug ins?

more options

Best solution would be to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. You could also try a system restore but that takes more time.

more options

I don't think so. :S

Also, is it normal for "plug-in container" to be showing in my processes? It always opens with firefox.

more options

plugin container keeps your plugins in a separate process, so that if one of your plugins crashes, firefox won't crash.

Reinstalling firefox should fix it, but, if you don't want to do that, you can try creating a new profile.

If i uninstall then reinstall my firefox, will all my history, cookies and bookmarks be removed?

more options

It should keep everything, but just incase, you should back up your profile.

more options

Uninstalled then reinstalled. Still getting the silly hanging.

This is so frustrating. I can't think of anything that'd be causing this.

more options

The only other thing I can think of is testing with a new profile. Sorry this is being so hard to fix.

more options

Made a new profile and tried it. Still hanging. I'm guessing this is the end of the line and it cant be fixed.

I'm only an untrained volunteer. You might get better luck at http://forums.mozillazine.org/. Make sure to mention that you tried safe mode, a new profile, and reinstalling firefox.

I will.

Thank you for all your help and time with the matter, I really appreciate it. :)

Actually there can be a lot of reasons. In most cases, a plugin, an addon, a virus or may be a registry error. Check out this: http://reallyhowto.com/fix-firefox-keeps-freezing-crashing-slow-issue/ Worked like a charm after installing that tool.
