Firefox Profile Issues

Recently, a user has been having issues with their Firefox profiles. They will get an error along the lines of "Using an older version of Firefox can corrupt bookmarks" with an Exit and a Create New Profile button.

Things we've tried in no particular order:

  • Setting the original profile as default (temporary solution)
  • Transferring bookmarks to a new profile (temporary solution)
  • Making sure Firefox is up to date (prompted again)
  • Checking for issues in the profiles.ini values (none)

The prompt always seems to come back 24 hours after a temporary solution is put in place. Many other users had the same issue, but theirs did not seem to persist.

Any help is appreciated as I'm currently stumped on the issue and can't find much on it.

What's their computer system and Firefox version?

This is from Firefox itself, not a website?

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.


[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.
