Webpages glitch and "corrupt" randomly

more options

After update 70 for Windows, some of my webpages are breaking randomly, causing me to close and open them in new tabs. The tab where the incident occurs becomes unusable even for different websites. This most frequently happens on Google related websites (Gmail and Sheets) but overall affects all my tabs. This never happened before the version 70.0 update. I don't believe they tax my system and crash that way, so I'm unsure what the cause is.

Hi SummerPlasma, Try starting Firefox in it's Safe Mode to see if the problem persists.

Safe Mode temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes) that might be causing problems.

With Firefox open: Select Menu Select Help Select Restart With Add-ons Disabled On the dialog select Restart On the next dialog select Start In Safe Mode (Do Not select Refresh)

With Firefox closed: Press and hold the Shift (in Mac: Option) key Launch Firefox On the dialog select Start In Safe Mode (Do Not select Refresh)

(Your Bookmarks Toolbar will be turned off. Right-click on the Toolbar and select Bookmarks Toolbar to display it again.) _____________________________________________

To quit Safe Mode: Select Menu Select Help Select Restart With Add-ons Enabled

Or Exit Firefox.

Hello. I did use Safe Mode which seemed to make things easier, but upon a reboot, Firefox seems to be working almost 100% normally. Pages only occasionally freeze up the entire program without "corrupting" tabs, but I believe from deduction that my SSD may be the cause of the glitches, in which I am currently in contact with SanDisk about it now. As far as it seems, it's not a Firefox issue, but I will reply if anything changes with a conclusion if I am able. Thank you.

I've done pretty much everything on here except reinstalling Windows 10 as there's nothing wrong with it. I haven't been doing system updates for a few months since the bad things that went down in May. Any other ideas?

It appears to be YouTube causing the problem, hanging up everything else in the browser, even if it's one of only a few tabs open. I'm not sure how to move forward besides contacting Google.

Did you try to disable YouTube related extensions or run with all extensions disabled to see whether this still happens ?

Yes, I've tried that. I'll list below everything I have tried (not in any particular order): 1. Restart with add-ons disabled - this worked only once to solve my problem, now it doesn't 2. Refresh Firefox 3. Restart my laptop multiple times 4. Limited the number of tabs to see if it was a workload problem 5. Ran two scans on my SSD - came back normal both times 6. Took out and reinserted my SSD - it was having issues anyway... 7. Used Edge and Chrome with the same websites/workload - no issues 8. Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 9. Checked for updates - there are none 10. Removed DuckDuckGo extension - I thought it was an issue but I guess it wasn't 11. Started Firefox with only Gmail open - reference number 4 12. Seen if it happened on non-Google related webpages - we're in the clear there 13. Monitored Task Manager for any abnormal spiking - my cpu does anyways while I use it but it's never enough to hang Firefox, and I have enough RAM to cover it

I have NOT done any major Windows updates since May 2019 due to the numerous problems arising from them over the past year and my OS is not corrupted in any way...at least I hope...but it's a bit extreme to reinstall Windows just for this if that happens to be some sort of solution.

I don't really want to say it's directly a Google problem, as I've switched to Chrome to compensate for now and those websites have been running smoothly, along with temporary testing in Edge. Maybe I should wait it out until the next Firefox update?
