websites slow to load, videos keep stopping, firefox only
Happens with both flash and youtube videos. I have:
- Run a full system scan with AVAST (it found 2 items which I deleted). - Refreshed firefox - Reinstalled firefox - Run in safe mode - and the problem seemed to disappear, although I only tried one short video. - Checked add-ons and extensions. The only ones always running are OpenH264, content decryption by Adobe, and content decryption by google. Flash is on "ask to activate." - Turned off hardware acceleration - Played videos in Chrome, which is I just installed. (It seems to work, but I hate Chrome.)
The problem seemed to have started when I got halfway through installing the video conversion program SUPER, then backed out of the installation. The program did say that it would install toolbars - could it have installed something even though I didn't finish the installation? I don't see any extra extensions or strange processes running.

Okay, let's try the certificate file. You may have corrupt cert8.db file. cert8.db stores all your security certificate settings
Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.
Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.
Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
OK, lesson learned. I'm really embarrassed. This is the first time I've ever had a virus/malware.
I seem to have gotten rid of it, but now firefox can only connect to https sites. I have successfully turned off/on all access using Avast and made sure firefox is allowed through windows firewall. Not sure what else to try... but I realize this might not be a firefox problem so I suppose you can close this thread.

We can close this after you are all set. Run the browser and let us know what the problems are.
Well like I said, I can only connect to sites that have https. Otherwise I get the error message "unable to connect."
I suspect your protection programs may be at fault.
Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?
Nope, it doesn't work in safe mode either.
