Some add ons (like Web Developer) sometimes open an extra tab when I start Firefox. How can I disable this intrusive behavior?
When I open Firefox, sometimes add ons (like Web Developer) open an extra page to inform me of an upgrade or something else. I don't need that information and it distracts me from the things I want to do. How can I stop this behavior? The only thing that works now is uninstall the add on.

Typically there is a preference in the UI for the extension in "Options" for the extension somewhere or a pref is hidden in about:config that allows the user to disable the "update splash screen". But not every extension that uses an "update page" allows it to be disabled; the "price" of using free software, I guess.
I don't use WebDeveloper so I don't know where that preference is located, if it has one.
