Without buying an all-new computer? I wish to run Flash for online streaming (online radio and YouTube). Have had machine upgraded several times and fear I am reaching the limit of what's available for it. What app for desktops/laptops is available to run Flash-like documents in real time?

Thanks for all you do.

Flash can run perfectly fine on Windows XP.

Make sure you are fully updated (Running Service Pack 3 and all later updates) and try not to have any unnecessary programs running.

Then install Flash from https://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and install it.

Sorry, Tyler. That's what I did. The content (local radio stations, also Radio Margaritaville) request a higher revision of Flash than the one I have. I have gone to their site and upgraded Flash to the highest revision level the site said I could run... to no avail.

Maybe I should be asking Flash about this; but you Firefox people are easier to get in touch with!

Flash 17 is the latest version for everyone. Perhaps there is a different issue such as a blocked script which is causing those sites to become confused and generate an incorrect error message.

To rule out extensions as a possible cause, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any difference?
