Have had the same issue since installing Firefox 3.6.6 - Flash content will just not play on certain web sites. There was no issue on previous versions of Firefox.

Fix, though probably not supported completely for much longer - Downgrade to Firefox 3.5.10 - Did it & everything now works again.

How do we get this to the actual people at Mozilla who can address this issue? Seems like they are blaming the end user, asking us to run in "safe-mode", when in reality they have a bug that did not exist in earlier versions.

IMO, you can get their attention by not using Firefox at all (even older versions); when "they" see a marked drop in Firefox usage for June, July, and August maybe they'll "see the light" and fix what's wrong. The usage statistics for Chrome keep climbing month by month so far this year, while Firefox's stats have been flat or even decreased for one month or another this year. Mozilla will get the picture if they see a huge drop in their stats for a month or two.

Basically, it's what I suspected all along. Firefox developers have started to add the code for process isolation for Plugins to Firefox 3.6. but it's not working properly yet. Whenever this process loads,however, the browser freezes.

First go to Tools , Add-ons , then Plugins and disable flash plugins ( including Shockwave for Director).

Then go type about:config in Firefox url bar, go past the warnings. Do Filter search "ipc" not quotes . You should see something like this:

For XP: dom.ipc.plugins.enabled;false dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll;true dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nptest.dll;true dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs;10

For Linux: dom.ipc.plugins.enabled;false dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.libflashplayer.so;true dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.libnptest.so;true dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs;10

To turn off the flash process isolation, change the second line: for XP (npswf32.dll) or for Linux (libflashplayer.so) to false and restart the browser. Then re-enable flash and the browser should be able to load flash pages and play flash video as usual.

For Firefox 3.7 (Minefield) users add second line: According to which OS you have.In about:config ,right click ,create new boolean, paste or type(second line above) and set to false restart the browser. Then re-enable flash and the browser should be able to load flash pages and play flash video as usual.

Weeks of TRASH = FIREFOX 3.66

All three of my computers have been totally worthless since I upgraded to FF3.66. Each are built/configured differently. Each has a different OS. Each has all the above problems. Crashes constantly, RAM & CPU usage on a Q9650 is always near 100%. After screwing around for days I finally came here and found out that I was among a very large and upset group of users. With the last few upgrade I've had minor problems with my selection of add-ons Firefox disabled them for a later fix. I found a new DL today, 3.67 so I installed it figuring the problem was addressed. After installation of 3.67 it still says it's 3.66??

I went to their site to find help from them and couldn't get anyplace until I came here and read about my problem. Thanks for giving me a clear head so I could find a good solution.

My solution was to remove all Mozilla/Firefox products and then install other browsing options. It felt funny because for the first time in years I had to use Microsoft Internet Explorer to find other options. My computer is problem free and fast as usual now.

I wonder how many other users have abandoned them due to this BS?? I for one will probably stick with my new choices now.

kaj, I'm so glad to here that you found a solution. It sucks that you basically had to turn off the crash protection feature for flash videos to to work for you. Here's a video of a test I did with the URL you posted. http://ilias.ca/screencasts/flashcontainer.ogg

If you'd like, I can spend some time with you, to figure out why it wasn't working for you, but was working for me. That way, we don't have to tell other users to turn off a great feature; and instead have a more specific solution like "change this setting" or "disable this add-on".

According to Phil, the problem still occurs in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode (which starts Firefox with extensions and other things disabled). In Safe Mode, plugins are not disabled, so the fact that your solution includes disabling other plugins might be a clue.

I did some searching and found this case, which looks familiar. The solution there was to uninstall the Java Quick Start plugin. Is that something you have installed? If you disable it, does the problem go away?

@Phil: I’m not aware of the steps for Vista (as I’m just relying on that link from another mozilla forum).

@Chris: I didn’t try the safe-mode. Regarding the temp. solution of disabling the plugin container, so far my firefox 3.6.6 has been working fine with flash 10.1. since the change. I didn’t adjust Java Quick Start; I only made the change to switch-off the plugin container.

I am giving Google Chrome a go now instead.

WOW thank you kaj for the solution you posted it actually worked for me! I have been pulling my hair out over this ever since 3.6.6 came out, but I tried the technique you posted and now I can finally watch videos on hulu, nbc, pbs, and bbc etc. like before. I hated having to go on IE just to watch a single video posted on a blog or web page, now I can use Firefox again. I hope they fix this in future versions so we don't have to use the manual fix every time, but at least their is a solution.

Shame on Firefox. I was among the first to jump ship, when it came out, but since it's a downward spiral. THe only thing keeps me using it is the firefox add-on (i'm a developer)

If you turn off hardware acceleration in Flash, does that fix it? For instructions, see Flash videos won't play full screen. (don't let the article title fool you)

If that works, are you all using Nvidia graphics cards?

I have just installed ff 3.6.7 and the problem is still there. I too was a firefox user but will have to set google chrome as my default browser

When I try to use Google Videos or YouTube, videos will not load and website will not display properly.

i cant play any video thru firefox, but i can thru IE

its says i dont have flash installed but every time i try and load it, it doesnt work.
