Surely Mozilla could redesign Thunderbird so that Google does not regard it as insecure, or liaise with Google to resolve this issue? As a blind computer user who relies on Thunderbird, this has been a huge nuisance.

If the authentication method on the incoming and outgoing servers is OAuth2, it isn't necessary to enable access by less-secure apps. Set the correct authentication, remove the passwords from Saved Passwords in Preferences/Privacy & Security, and in the same section accept cookies, then restart TB, and enter the account password in the OAuth window to allow access.
