Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. (Firefox 57 and above) Click the Library button 57 library icon and choose History.
(Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose History in older Firefox versions.)
  2. In the History menu, choose "Clear Recent History...".
  3. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  4. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  5. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  6. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

Further information can be found in the Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Hi natbak, could you describe the steps you are using to reply with a picture? For example, do you click a button that is supposed to show pictures from --

  • your computer
  • your albums
  • somewhere else

-- and the problem is when you click that button, or is the problem after you select a photo? What does the button look like (in case a FB user wants to try it themselves)?

Thanks I am using the latest version FF on acer aspire laptop. It only started a few days ago and does not happen on IE or other browsers. When in Facebook, i click comment to reply to a post. Then the camera icon to post a photo from a folder that i always use. The folder then opens in a smaller window and behind it the main Facebook window scrolls all the way to its top, so the actual post can be 1/2 to 1 page down.

Hmm, that button seems to work normally for me. If I go in slow motion:

  • mouse button down on the camera button: a blue border appears briefly around the entire post and then fades
  • mouse button up: a file browsing window opens -- I didn't upload a photo, I just canceled the dialog

Can you tell whether the scrolling problem occurs when you mouse down, or release the button, or only after selecting a photo to upload?

scrolling happens the moment i click the camera button

The moment you put the mouse button down and hold it, before lifting your finger?

Correction: Scrolling happens when I let the mouse button go, lifting up my finger

Thanks. Normally simply clicking a file browse button (like the unstylish one on this site) would have no effect on the scroll position of the page.

Does it make any difference if you disable Autoscrolling? That can be found here:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type scroll and Firefox should filter to the "Browsing" section. Uncheck the box for "Use autoscrolling".

If that's not it, Facebook's scripts may to be doing something extra, but I'm not sure anyone will be able to track it down.

I just tried that but no difference, it still scrolls

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See Creating a profile:

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem
