Firefox crashes every time I open it. Even with shift-click to start in safe mode, it crashes after two or three seconds. When I "update" it (it's already the latest version), I can open it for one full session. If I close it, I have to "update" it with Internet Explorer before I can use it one more time. There is no crash report. I ran the suggested program, and it showed two crash reports, from several months ago. Nothing from tonight, when this started. I can't submit a crash ID, because there isn't one.

Hi there, I have no idea what could cause Firefox to act like that, but my bet is it's an add-on. You can reset Firefox, while keeping your bookmarks, history, passwords, etc. Only your add-ons and preferences are set back to factory defaults: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Which page(s) do you open on startup?

Try to start Firefox with an about:blank page appended to the command line in a copy of the Firefox the desktop shortcut.

  • "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -url about:blank

A possible cause is a problem with the hurdle 2012 doodle that Google is currently using on its main search page.
It is probably easiest to choose a different home page like about:home or use the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar to initiate the searches for now.

I have tried all the common fixes. I have Windows 7 updated with latest Firefox version 14.01. I did the reset default. Updated all my plug-ins and have no add-ons. It crashes about 2 x an hour. The only thing I can see is that I have a splitter on that cable modem line and running a TV off of that. I like to watch baseball while I do my e-mails etc. Maybe I might try an older verison.
