You don't directly save it. When you next try to send a message through that server, you will then be prompted to enter your password and asked whether you want to save it or not.
slightly annoying as when I reset a password for all services I like to change it immediately and be remindedn that I'd changed the password when I send an e-mail. I will add this to the wish list
