I completed an update on Firefox and all of the passwords I had saved are gone. I have tried checking for alternate profiles, but that did not work. How can I recover my passwords?

Hey there,

Do you still have your Firefox profile data other than your passwords? Do you still have your history and bookmarks and any add-ons, for example?

Did anything unusual happen when you updated Firefox?

My history and bookmarks are all still there. Just the passwords are gone. And nothing unusual seemed to happen during the update.

You are looking in the correct location for your profile?

You can use the button in "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

For the passwords you need logins.json (encrypted logins) and key4.db (encryption key). If you have logins.json, do you still see login data (encrypted usernames and passwords) in this file or only a possible deleted flag?

I see a few passwords in logins.json, but only ones of pages I've logged into since the update. I don't think I had a profile set up before the update. I didn't use a login, but that has never caused a problem on any previous updates.
