Forgotten Thunderbird primary password

In trying to launch Thunderbird, I am now for the first time being asked for my primary Thunderbird password. I do not remember setting this up and I have no record of this. How do I reset this password so that I can open thunderbird? I have been using Thunderbird for several years now and have never previously been asked for a primary password.

Go to tools>Developer tools>error console - enter this text, including the closing ')' 

   openDialog("chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xhtml")


- the Reset button should appear. All passwords for accounts will be deleted
