When I search for a name in Thunderbird mail e.g Lennart, nothing from 2026 comes up, only older mails from 2025-12-31 and backwards. if I search on his e-mailadress, e.g l.name@ppost.se it finds avery mail. What is wrong?

What search are you using - 'Quick Filter', 'Global Search' or via 'Search Messages' ?

IF 'Lennart' is a 'Display Name' : Do any of the emails received this year actually contain that Display Name with the email address ? In other words did the sender include Lennart as display name? If no then it would explain why Lennart fails but email address works.

How to check :

  • Select email so it displays in Message Pane
  • click on 'More' and select 'View Source'

It opens in a new window. You would need to scroll down past most of the headers to locate the 'From' to see if those emails since this year do contain that display name.


If you used 'Global Search': The time period can be selected - did you select this year ? Is 2026 shown or any dates across the top ? Use the 'Toggle Timeline' to enable if not visible.

Have you by any chance selected another filter which may restrict on eg: a folder?
