Is there any way to disable or remove sidebar/vertical tabs permanently?
I do not and will not use the sidebar/vertical tabs features.
Unfortunately, it seems that firefox has decided to reactivate these features with an update? This is unacceptable. I do not want my settings to be altered with a software update. If firefox wants to tell me about a new feature, feel free to make a dialogue bubble pop up (once) asking if I'd like to explore said new features. Otherwise, please refrain from altering my preferred configuration without permission or notification. Doing so is completely asinine at best and shows open contempt for your customer base at worst.
I do not wish to give mozilla/firefox another opportunity to make my experience worse, thusly I ask: Is there anyway to entirely remove/disable the sidebar/vertical tabs feature from the browser so that it cannot be reactivated without the specific actions of the user?

for the record, I've reconfigured (deconfigured?) the browser to my liking and no longer see the offending icons but if there's a way to signal to new versions that I DO NOT WANT their "new and improved features", that'd be great lol

On the Settings page, you can uncheck the box for Show Sidebar. That should limit your Firefox to the classic sidebar features (bookmarks, history, sync'ed tabs, certain extension panels) and exclude the new features.
More generally, no, new versions are like a box of chocolates.
