links in webpage not opening in firefox

After I open a webpage in firefox, the first link I click on works and opens in a new tab. But when I try to open another link, nothing happens, only the refresh logo to the left of the home logo changes to a cross and then back into a curved arrow again.. I have tried clearing all data, have refreshed Firefox, have even uninstalled and then reinstalled firefox, still the problem persists. I have tried firefox in safe mode too but the issue persists.

Any help in fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. I love firefox and don't want to migrate to another browser.

My OS is Windows 10 Home Edition.
