Bookmark sidebar icons missing after each FF update

Each time FF updates, all my bookmark sidebar (ctrl-b) icons are missing. The only way I get them back is by clicking each one to load the page. This is real pain. I have several hundred bookmarks, in many folders. This happens for each OS I have installed, from XP to Win-10 & Linux, How can I stop this behavior?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift (Mac Options) > key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Thanks for the reply No safemode does not bring back the small icons on the left in teh bookmark pane. Any other suggestions. Thanks again
