I had to reinstall Firefox after my hard disc was wiped clean because of viruses. My bookmarks were not backed up. Is there any way lost bookmarks can be recovered from Firefox?

No, I'm afraid not if you do not have a backup of your personal data in the Firefox profile folder and also not use Firefox Sync to store data on the Sync server.
