Version 7.0.1 crashes on startup. If I upgrade to ver.8 will this correct the problem & still retain my 'bookmarks' ?

My ver.7.0.1 crashes on start up & sends an 'Application Error' message of : -The instruction at"0x10008d37" referenced memory at"0xffffffff". The memory could not be read. 

           Click OK to terminate the program
           Click on CANCEL to debug the program

I'm hoping if I upgrade to version 8, that it will solve this problem & not lose my BOOKMARKS. This crash also occurs in a SAFE MODE boot up.
