Can't get Thunderbird to change Authorization Method to OAuth2
I have set up 2fa with my email provider (email is rdoty@gmx.com) and set an app-specific password for Thunderbird. Gmx also supports OAuth2. I have reset the passwords in Thunderbird to the app-specific one and confirmed that both ends accept cookies. The SMTP server is mail.gmx.com, port 465. Connection security is SST/TLS. The IMAP email is IMAP.gmx.com. The problem is that Thunderbird does not change Authentication Method to OAuth2. When it queries GMX it always times out or is refused. What am I missing or needs to be changed?

I did a little internet searching, and I don't see any sign that GMX supports OAuth2, which would explain why it's not an available option for you. I did find these generic email settings that you can try. You may need to confirm this info with their tech support:
Incoming (IMAP) Server: imap.gmx.com Port: 993 Encrytion: SSL or encryption
Outgoing (SMTP) Server: mail.gmx.com Port: 587 Encryption: STARTTLS
Outgoing (SMTP) Server: mail.gmx.com Port: 465 Encryption: SSL/TLS
Please note: You can only use a TLS protocol if your email program uses TLS versions 1.2 or 1.3. For security reasons, we no longer support the older TLS versions 1.0 and 1.1.
Info: If a connection via port 993 is not possible, you can try port 143. Please note that this connection is not encrypted by default. You can achieve encryption via port 143 by activating STARTTLS in your email program (e.g. Thunderbird, Outlook or Apple Mail) and using a valid SSL/TLS certificate.

Thank you for the response. I was aware that GMX does not have OAuth2 even though an AI says it does. I don't think the problem is on GMX end but more some setting combo which I haven't discovered on TB since I authenticated 2fa and provided an app-specific PW for Thunderbird
Which of the above settings are you using?
I don't think it's a good idea to trust AI on stuff like that. It only repeats what it "hears" elsewhere. Garbage in -> garbage out. Better to go to the source.
