Backup Bookmarks
When will Firefox Android allow backing up bookmarks to a file on the phone? I want to keep my phone and my desktop browser separate, so I don't want to sync. Without this feature, I regard FF Android as so problematic that I'm trying to find an alternative.

There is a bug on file for this, but since there doesn't seem to be anything in testing at this point, I don't expect to see it released in 2025. Hopefully next year.
Meanwhile, perhaps an option to consider is the following:
(1) Create a new Mozilla Account using a different email address that isn't the primary or a secondary address on your existing Mozilla Account.
(2) Create a new Firefox profile (steps below) and sign it in to the new Mozilla Account. This will not cross over with your main profile and account.
(3) Sign your mobile Firefox for Android into your new Mozilla Account. On the desktop side, a new Mobile Bookmarks category should appear below Bookmarks Toolbar, Bookmarks Menu, and Other Bookmarks.
But yes, it would be more convenient if Firefox for Android could either export bookmarks or support bookmark extensions.
New Profile Setup
Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
Take a quick glance at the page and make a mental note of which Profile has this notation: This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is your current default profile.
Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like MobileSync, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.
Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so click the Set as Default Profile button for your regular one to avoid an unwanted surprise at your next startup.
Scroll down to MobileSync and click its Launch profile in new browser button.
Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) After clicking off the welcome stuff, you can sign in to your new separate Mozilla Account and decide what categories of data you want to sync. (How do I choose what information to sync on Firefox?)
Set this window aside for 10 minutes to allow it to download data while you work on other things. Do the Mobile Bookmarks show up either in the sidebar (Ctrl+B, or on Mac, Command+B) or "Manage bookmarks"?
When you are done with the MobileSync window, you can close it and return from time to time through about:profiles.

Thank you so much! I will do that when I have a hour to spare.
Could I mention one other detail? Unfortunately, although your new desktop profile can see your mobile bookmarks, it cannot "Export" them to an HTML file. Annoying. You could look for an add-on for that. Alternately, Firefox will back them up if you make the JSON-format backup file. See the "Manual Backup" section of:
Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer
But that file is somewhat unreadable. I posted a tool to convert it to an HTML-format file with clickable links if you ever need it. That is available on either:
