I am hoping someone can help me. I had an email address for years that was a Medicacom email. When we got rid of Mediacom we no longer have that email. I had it linked to Mozilla Thunderbird. Yesterday I tried to disable it. I clicked on remove account but not on the message data. It removed all of the emails that I had in there. I have several things that I need that were just gone. I hope someone can help me retreive them. Thank you.

Assuming you use Windows, you might look in c:\users\<yourid>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles to see if any content is there. Messages would be in either the Mail folder or the Imapmail folder within one of the profile folders. But it's probably gone.

Okay, this may be a waste of time, but worth a check. In thunderbird, click help>troubleshootinginformation, scroll down to 'profile folder' on left side, and click 'open folder'. You are now in the profile. If the account was a POP account, any residual info will be in the Mail folder or the Mail\Local Folders folder. Look for the account name. If IMAP, look in the Imapmail folder. If you see folders that look possible, such as inbox & inbox.msf, you may have found some messages. If you find anything of interest, we can go to next step.

I did get your message again and thank you. In the mail folder I did find that email and it has inbox with a 04-03 date. That is the date this happened. Although, when I click it it asks what app I want to use to open it. It says the file is 87,137 kb so that may be it but not sure what to do now.

Two ways to do this: - if you're comfortable with File Explorer, you could exit thunderbird, and then copy the file (but NOT the msf) to your profile at Mail\Local Folders and then restart thunderbird. - OR, you can install the import-export addon, highlight local folders, right click, select the import-export option and then click the 'import mbox' option and then select the file.

Once again I am very grateful to you for helping me with this. It gives me hope that I can possilby recover these emails. Although, I am not sure how to do either of the things you sugguested. I am not very computer savvy and am nervous to do these things. I don't want to lose anything more. Which option would be the easiest? Any further explanation? Thanks again.

adding the import-export addon is safest. Go to tools>addons and search for 'import' - that should find the import-export NG addon. click to add it and then follow prior instructions. Write back if more info needed.

I am still a bit nervous to do anything. Is there a way to back things up before i do anything else?

The safest way is with Windows File Explorer. - exit thunderbird (this is important) - copy c:\users\<yourid>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird to somewhere else - restart thunderbird

I wanted to thank you for all your respones to me on this issue. I am still nervous to try any of these things. As much as I want to get these emails back I don't want to mess it up more. Thanks again..
