I did enter the composition window. There was no option to click view >toolbars.

In that case, right-click and select 'menu bar.'

I right clicked and there was no option to select menu bar.

Could you post a screenshot of what you see when in compose window? I am assuming you did the right-click near top of screen.

Not sure I know how to do that. Nothing happened when I did the right click in the shaded area of the screen. in the area where you would write the message, there was a square box with selections like undo, cut, copy, a list of ten such items

Ok, try this way. Return to main screen. If you do not see a menu bar, (File, Edit, View, Go Message, etc.) then right-click near top and tick 'menu bar'. That should open the menu bar for viewing. Then click 'write' and the menu bar should also appear in compose window. If so, click View>toolbars and select 'composition toolbar. Let me know if that does it.
