Thunderbird stopped receiving or sending emails.
When I start Thunderbird I get this message Sending of password for user Jim R Feliciano did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: Server error - Please try again later. I have double checked the server settings. I have it on port 995. I am able to get my email when I log in through Yahoo on my browser. I also have a program called BlueMail with the same settings that works correctly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird a couple of time with no change. I have tried the connection security settings None StartTls and SSL/TLS and no change. I keep the authentication method set to Normal Password. Please help.

do you use the required secure mail key for a password. https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1240308/
That is by far the most common question here from ATT customers.
It gives instructions for a secure mail key. I cannot find a way to enter a secure mail key on thunderbird.
Thunderbird does not allow me to choose OAuth2 for my password authentication method
In Thunderbird for incoming and outgoing smtp - set authentication method to Normal Password.
Create the secure mail key as per instructions by ATT https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1240308/
In Thunderbird
- Menu app icon > Preferences > Privacy & Security
- Passwords section
- click on 'Saved Passwords'
- clickon 'Show Passwords'
For both incoming and outgoing smtp lines for email address using att
- Right click on line and select 'Edit Password'
- Completely remove all content and then enter the 'secure mail key'
- click on 'Close'
Restart Thunderbird.
I have the secure mail key. When I go to "Saved Passwords" there is no Provider UserName listed. Earlier I thought there were multiple Providers listed (all att.net) and I deleted one but it must have deleted them all.I previously deleted then reinstalled Thunderbird. It somehow knew my username when I restarted the newly installed version but it still does not list a Provider or Username.
When you first restarted Thunderbird, did it ask for password ? If yes, I presume you entered the secure mail key. Did you select the checkbox to remember password before you clicked on OK?
If you did not select to remember password then nothing is saved and it remembers for that session.
Menu app icon > Preferences > Privacy & Security' Click on 'Saved Passwords' - it should display something if you have selected to remember password. To update a password you need to click on 'Show Passwords' first.
If all empty - see if the password is stored for session only.
Exit Thunderbird - wait a few moments for background processes to complete.
Start Thunderbird
If asked for password - enter secure mail key - but this time make sure to select that checkbox to remember password. Then click on OK
