Tabs won't close, suddenly links open a new window instead of a new tab.

Suddenly tabs won't close & hitting "Command" & a link opens a new window instead of a new tab. Anyone know how to make tabs close & also how to revert to allowing "command" + clicking a link to open in a new tab & not a new window? I've tried shift + re-opening Firefox & I tried 'safe mode' & it's still happening.

also, once I'm on a tab, I can't click on another tab & see that page. It remains on the tab I'm on. I'm wondering if I should just re-install Firefox.

well, I learned, if you have two keyboards, disconnect one of them or make sure no one sets paperwork on the shift, command or fn keys!!
