Old Search
I don't like the new search; I HATE how it pops up, and I can't just organize the emails easily by date on the main page. A lot of my emails have the same subject or start the same way, so it's a nightmare trying to sort through all of them. Is there any way to get the old search back?

What OS are you using? What version of thunderbird are you using? Which search are you talking about? Quick Filter Bar ? Global Search ? Or Find > Search Messages ?
re: I don't like the new search What new search are you talking about? Please tell me the process you do when you want to use one of the various search methods, so I can understand why you are having a problem.
re: I HATE how it pops up Quick Filter Bar search operates the in the same folder, so doesn't pop up. Global search opens in a new tab, but this has always been the same. Find > Search Messages does open in a new window, but has always opened in small window and it only appears if you invoke it, so it's not a pop up. So I'm not sure what you mean by 'pop up'.
re: I can't just organize the emails easily by date on the main page. Quick Filter Bar search is within the same window and therefore follows the same setting you have set on that folder. Sort by Date can be ascending or decending and a click on the 'Date' column header sorts by Date, a second click on Date column header resorts in opposite direction.
Find > Search Messages operates in the same way as mentioned above - by clicking on the 'Date' column header.
Global Search - if it says 'sort by relevance' click on drop down and select 'Sort by Date', but it is much easier to see more and sort if you click on 'Open email as list' (if using 68*) or 'Show results as list' (if using 78*), then sorting by date is the same as before - clicking on the 'Date' column header.
Can you explain exactly what you are doing, so I can understand why you are finding a problem.
