Integrated pdf viewer (built-in PDF viewer) - option (like Adobe Reader) send as "attached file"

more options

Hello,

For some time now, Firefox has not opened pdf files (with adobe reader) in the browser. Then, the pdf files open separately via the adobe application. The "built-in PDF viewer" (from firefox) works correctly but I can no longer find the option "send as attached file". Is there an alternative with the Integrated pdf viewer? Thank you very much.

Regards,

Beno50.

Just off the top, I'm thinking if you download the PDF, then in your eMail program, you can Send the PDF as an Attachment.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. Yes I know but the objective is to have the option directly in the "built-in PDF viewer" offered by Firefox (like this in internet explorer with Adobe reader: attachment.png).

Thank you

Hmm. If it was there, I don't see it now. I rarely need to eMail any PDFs, so if I need to, I'll just download the PDF and 'attach' it with my eMail.

I wonder why Mozilla left the 'Send As Attachment' out? Again, I didn't know it was there, since I don't think I ever eMailed a PDF from FF's Reader.

Hello,

I have to tell you, we are a hospital. There are a lot of people using this option (time-saving). I couldn't find an extension (or something like that) to add this.

Did you set-up:

Settings -> General -> Applications -> mailto

Also go to customize and drag Email Link to the tool bar.

Adding "Send as Attachment" was suggested to the builders of the pdf.js library -- the component used as Firefox's PDF Viewer -- but they decided not to implement it: https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/issues/5527

Firefox itself doesn't have any Send as Attachment type feature (for example, Email Link is just the link, not the page content).

I don't know whether an add-on could do it. It probably would need to talk to Windows through an external component (companion program), or custom code to work with different webmail sites.

Hello,

If I understand correctly, this will never be implemented due to security issues? :( There is no alternative?

@My_Cheese_Is_Slippin: This feature allows you to send links directly by email but it doesn't allow you to just send the PDF

Hi Beno50, I don't know about "never" but the PDF viewer is a single-purpose tool meant to plug into any website or browser, so perhaps they don't consider it their mission. Meanwhile, Firefox has trouble keeping up with changes on email sites like Outlook and Yahoo, so the basic ability to click an email link doesn't always work. That suggests to me it would be overly optimistic to expect Mozilla to figure out how to not only properly create the email in any program or website you might use, but also to attach a file to it. Maybe if Adobe could donate some code that would speed it up.
