Since update to version 59.0.1 youtube tabs stopped working

more options

Since the 18th, I realized that none of the memorized tabs containing a sequence of youtube videos would work. One can recall (by force <Enter> ) the topmost youtube address but none of the previous ones is reactive to selection by any means. So Must I note in a piece of paper their description, search and recharge by hand every single one of them? Is that your purpose? Right now I curse Quantum and particularly v.59.0.1

Hi work2nite, could you explain this in a little more detail? For example:

On Saturday, you watch video 1, then video 2, then video 3. If you right-click the Back button, you can see all 3 of the videos in the tab's history. You leave the tab open and exit Firefox.

On Sunday, you restore your previous session -- either Firefox is set to restore the previous session windows and tabs automatically, or you use the menu button and choose Restore Previous Session. The YouTube tab loads video 3 but has lost its Back history for video 2 and video 1.

Is that what you meant?

I'll give it a try:

I tend to watch a succession of youtube videos from their suggestions. I always had Firefox reload tabs from last session. Since 59.0.1 I had the following symptoms: 1- The youtube video from the top won't load automatically when i select its tab. 2- the "Back" arrow seems to be rendered useless. After insisting for a long while sometimes it scrolls down the list of videos but I cannot force any of them to playback.

The exception seems to be the top last video (top): If I select the youtube url written on top and hit <Enter> I can get that video to play. Unfortunately, it gets added to the video list on that same tab as a duplicate of the top one... and the original reference remains dead (as all the others, except the duplicate). Sad. I wonder if that has something to do with ad blocking.

Maybe reload (Ctrl+r or click the reload circular arrow button) will be a little easier than clicking in the address bar and pressing Enter?

I tend to close my YouTube tabs to free up memory so I don't have direct experience with this issue. I may need to test it overnight.

Yeah, that's another one: That circular arrow is grayed out on those youtube tabs. I even tried firefox reload with no add-ons. Same result.

During this time are you logged into your Youtube account right?

Well if that login happened it was without me being aware. Something I did in the past and came back due to the "load previous session tabs" feature?

In fact, the situation was rather ridiculous since all I did on Friday was to watch some videos and nothing else. I only booted the computer (win7 btw) late saturday and I noticed a firefox update and next I realized those youtube tabs were kind of read-only, I could see the subject text but could not interact with any them. So, either I find a way to rollback to a previous version (I'll try that on another computer, asap) or I have to create everything from scratch and that's a lot of work. But probably I'd have finished that by now instead of waiting for a workaround. Nobody seems to be sharing the same problem...

I guess there are no solutions. Even so here go another 2 cents: I went to a similar computer that I knew had version 57 installed. I created a restore point and installed version 59. The I copied a number of files from the profile associated with the original problem to thois new installation. Guess what same tab issues as in the original computer.

Afterwards I restored the computer and had my firefox version 75 back. Same deal, copying same problem profile files onto the default profile. Guess what - no frozen youtube tabs anymore... Now I must find an elegant way of disposing of this 59.0.1 version and install a previous one without too much disruption...

Does this problem occur in a new Firefox 59 profile where you don't bring over any files?

New Profile Test

This takes a few minutes to set up, but I guess you won't know the result until tomorrow.

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Click the Create a New Profile button, then click Next. Assign a name like March2018, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

After creating the profile, scroll down to it and click the Set as default profile button below that profile, then scroll back up and click the Restart normally button. (There are some other buttons, but please ignore them.)

Firefox should exit and then start up using the new profile, which will just look brand new. Ignore any urgings to sign up for accounts or activate extensions, we'll just keep it clean for testing.

Watch videos...

When you are done with the experiment, open the about:profiles page again, click the Set as default profile button for your normal profile, then click the Restart normally button to get back to it.
