As of a few days ago, my history in Firefox is not updating. Any site that I go to does not get entered into history, nor will previously closed tabs restore. However, links that I have visited do change color to indicate that they have been visited, and if I go to a new website, close it, then type the URL into the address bar, it will auto-complete to the website. I have History set to Always Remember in Firefox options.

I have tried running Places Maintenance, which did not fix the issue, and I did a backup of my history with FEBE and restored it, but the issue returned with restoring my history.

Any further suggestions?

Did you try to rename/delete the places.sqlite file to force Firefox to create a new file and restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup?

If the history is too corrupted to recover then your only option is to start with new history.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder that stores session data. When sessionstore.js is deleted you lose pinned tabs and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Note that the System Details List shows that you have multiple Flash plugins.

  • Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0
  • Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.
