running XP with TB 38.5.0 with Gmail pop3 acct. Tb says I'm connected but I get pop3 error.

When I try to "Get Mail" the status barr says I'm connected to Gmail's server but after several seconds delay a message pops up saying there is a pop3 error but that the server responded. Where do I look to resolve this problem? I have no problem accessing Gmail through the webmail.
