I'm trying to install an extension, but a message pops up saying Firefox has prevented me from installing it. I go to the addon's website and try installing it from there, but I get another message saying Firefox "cannot modify the needed file". I think I know what it is - the extensions folder in my profile is all "Access Denied" - NOTHING I do can shift it; I've tried going through the Security tab, but all it tells me is that I need the Read permissions. I've tried removing the directory through the command prompt, but it tells me the same thing, "access denied"... I'm stumped! But I've got to install that extension!

Never mind; access to the folder reopened after a while and I could get my extensions back.

How to Install Add-on Extension:

After downloading addon extension *.xpi file to desktop or downloads folder.

In Thunderbird

'Tools' > 'Add-ons' or 'Menu icon' > 'Add-ons'

  • Click on gear wheel icon and select 'Install Add-on From File'.
  • Locate the *.xpi file you downloaded and click on 'Open'.
  • You many need to restart Thunderbird when prompted.

That does not work. I tried it. It comes up with the same error.
