When I reply or forward an email (Thunderbird 182.12, MacBook Pro M3) with a keyboard shortcut and start writing right away, the initial characters are typed into the address bar and then only the focus switches to the main composition field.
This leads to some some other email addresses being selected depending on what the first few letters in typing are...
Is there any way that the focus is always first on the composition window and not the address bar?
Thanks a lot Harry

After the recent update to 140.1.0esr Lightning calendar reminders do not come up correctly (W11 if it makes any difference)
Previously reminders worked as they should, I have several daily, some weekly, fortnightly and as required, only the odd one comes up and one or two will come up but then disappear without my intervention
I have tried all the various settings to no avail
Someone in another thread suggested their old email address needed to be changed in Calendar properties, but I cannot find Calendar properties anywhere
I used to use Remindafox which worked better than Lightning but had to use Lightning when it was discontinued

I just updated to version 140.0 and now my subfolders are out of order. Is there a fix for this, short of fixing it manually? I miss how they were automatically alphabetized. That went away when manual reordering was implemented. I can't grab a bunch at the same time and move them, since the order is so messed up.

I am guessing that my inbox messages disappearing had something to do with a Thunderbird update.
Pay attention mainly to the lines that mention "key".
Access your AT&T Mail using your favorite email apps Synchronize other account info, such as your calendar and contacts, to your email app.
Create a secure mail key
It’s easy to create a secure mail key from your mobile device, tablet, or computer. Have your User ID and password ready to sign in to myAT&T.
Go to your myAT&T Profile. Sign in, if asked. Scroll to My linked accounts, select the email account that needs a secure mail key. Scroll to Secure mail key, select Manage secure mail key. Choose the email address that you’d like to use, if you have more than one. Select Add secure mail key. Enter a nickname for the secure mail key to make it easy to recognize. Choose Create secure mail key. Select Copy secure mail key to clipboard. Make a note of your secure mail key for further updates. For security purposes, the secure mail key only displays until you select OK. If you lose or forget the secure mail key, you can always create new secure mail keys. Select OK. Go to your preferred email app, replace the existing password with your secure mail key. For an IMAP account, delete the existing password for both the IMAP and SMTP servers. Replace them with your secure mail key.
Good to know: Each device you use to access your email will have its own secure mail key. Additional secure mail key notes
Access your AT&T email account without an OAuth mail app or secure mail key
You can always read and manage your email through a Web browser at currently.com.
A secure mail key won’t affect your AT&T email password
You’ll still use the same password for your AT&T Mail account in OAuth-compatible apps, myAT&T, and other AT&T products like currently.com and webmail. When you change your AT&T email password, you won’t need to get a new secure mail key.
Keep your secure mail key as long as you like
Secure mail keys never expire.
Create a new secure mail key for a blocked or locked account
For safety reasons, we delete secure mail keys whenever we have to lock or block your account. If that happens, you’ll have to create a new secure mail key for each AT&T Mail account.
Give your secure mail key a nickname
Create a nickname to identify your secure mail key, especially if you have more than one. It’s much easier to recognize a nickname, like Ari’s email or Kelly’s email, than the 16 random characters you entered when setting up your email. Last updated: March 12, 2025
When I went through this process, it showed a key from 2024.
I merely deleted it and from the same page created a new key. After that 500 emails from the last week started downloaded to my inbox.
Happy again.

I'm an IT consultant trying to help out a poor client of mine who suddenly has been getting tons of nasty profane spam. Her email address must have gotten on somebody's bad list because this just started happening after years of relatively little spam. It comes in huge bursts.
We had turned to Thunderbird because it was supposed to be good at isolating spam. But no matter what I do, it won't move ANY spam to the Junk or Bulk folders. Yahoo uses Bulk so I told Thunderbird to use that folder. I also told it to use SpamAssassin. It is EXCELLENT at marking all these emails with the little symbol for SpamAssassin, but it doesn't automatically move them. And there's no rule system that can move them. I've tried it at the local level, account level, every possible setting, and the old ones stay in the Inbox and the new ones go directly to the Inbox. I've even turned off antivirus to see if that was interferring.
I really don't want to give up Thunderbird, but this isn't working and it's the reason we came to Thunderbird. Can anyone shed some light on this?

New update 140.1.0esr broke connection to my AOL verizon email (##@verizon.net) Apparently AOL mail will not accept the password or something. Have tried lots of things (including 2-12 hour chat with AOL mail "tech support"). Exactly same thing on my wife's desktop install. I considered trying to roll back to previous release - but I had both set to not install updated without asking permission. So I assume if it roll it back it's just going to update again without asking for permission. HELP! I've spent at least 6 hours on this already.

Please help! I have tried all the top level fixes, checking permissions, restarting, all the settings, advanced and otherwise. Troubleshoot mode. I have not reinstalled the instructions file - forget its name... is that necessary/useful? Or is there a way to find code that is overwriting improperly. It's not just for what I write now, wherein an attempt to, say, make a specific word appear blue fails. But what is stored and read through thunderbird also loses its color-switch.
Thanks.

Emails from certain senders (big companies like Amazon, Twitter and YouTube), after having been received normally for some time, suddenly stop arriving. They are not in a junk folder and nothing I have done has been able to get anything into a junk folder.
I also receive emails on my phone, and the problem messages ARE in a junk folder there. (I only just realised this.)
The problem seems to be that Thunderbird sees some messages as junk but instead of putting them in a junk folder it disappears them completely. From the evidence on my phone, nearly everything being flagged as junk is real email, things I want. If I could simply tell Thunderbird to receive everything it would be fine, but I don't know how to get these emails to download.
Looking at what is in my phone I see a load of important stuff that I really need, in my junk folder there. It's not anywhere in Thunderbird. How can I get this to download?

Good evening! After updating the update to the latest version of Thunderbird, the address book stopped working. Reinstalling the program did not help, rolling back to the previous version - swears that changes in the profile do not allow the application to run. Deleting abook.sqlite, abook.sqlite-wal, and abook.sqlite-shm did not solve the problem. After deleting all the files, logging into the program and trying to create a new address book, nothing happens, only these three new files are created in the profile. The address book is local

I have been using Thunderbird email for years, and when I bought a new computer, everything transferred over perfectly. Now, I've suddenly lost all incoming and outgoing use on my computer, but still receiving (not able to send) on my android phone. All my settings on the computer are now messed up and I don't know how to fix them. I had all the settings saved on my backup external hard drive, but that has now gone bad and I can't access any photos where the settings were kept.
How can I fix Thunderbird because it constantly crashes when it never used to do this?

The first search will generally work fine and I can group email and move then to a relevant folder by dragging or using the Move facility in the Search pane.
If I should perform another search, I cannot move even a single email by dragging or using the Move facility.
Even closing and reopening search does not help. I will have to close down Thunderbird and start all over.
Any ideas of what's I'm doing wrong?
I cannot delete emails from drafts after they have been sent. This used to be automatic.

Background:
Yesterday (7/25/2025) Ubuntu ran an auto-update and appears to have updated tbird. At the time this did not affect tbird as it was up and running with the old version of code.
Today (7/26/2025), upon starting tbird and clicking on the Calendar tab tbird goes into 100% cpu utilization.
This issue appears to be related to changes in how recurring events are now listed under Calendar as individual events. For events with no ending date this new 'feature' now generates entries for the next 100 years (eg, 26 July 2025 - 26 July 2125).
Steps I've performed in an attempt to address the 100% cpu utilization issue:
At this point it appears (to me) that tbird's 100% cpu utilization and unusable UI is related to tbird having a hard time managing my 202 calendar events (most of which are recurring events - mostly monthly but there are several daily and weekly events, too).
This latest update of tbird is unusable!
Please rollback this behavior of expanding recurring events into individual events, or at a minimum give us a setting that keeps tbird from expanding recurring events into individual entries under the Calendar tab.
In the meantime, since tbird is running in a virtual machine, I'm rolling back to a previous snapshot and disabling Ubuntu's automatic updates of tbird software.
