This is just one of many. The problem started yesterday (after updating to 28.0) when I tried to download a file (photo from webmail) I got as far as the dialogue box and everything stalled before crashing out. I've worked my way through the various suggestions and ran a full anti-virus and malware check overnight (malwarebytes and AVG). Tried a restore and still the same problem, tried in safe mode and problem still happening, I even tried going back to 27 but no success. I have the same problem when I try to change the options on download to save to a specified location rather than choosing one each time, everytime the dialogue box opens the browser stalls and crashes. And now I've just discovered that I have exactly the same problem uploading a file (document to attach to email via webmail).

Chosen solution

Fixed! Nothing to do with Firefox, good ol' Microsoft strikes again. A background update had changed the IE security settings, a reset of IE and all back to normal. Phew.

When I try and download something or open a PDF file. Basically anything that requires FireFox to show me a dialog box it freezes and the only way to close it is to tell windows to close it, so there is no chance of sending a crash report.

I am now back on 27.0.1 Which although prone to crash does let me send a crash report.

Can't see any problems in IE security but then I don't use it.

I have found that when I had a page running flash open that seemed to cause an issue if I wanted to open a dialogue box in FF. FF & Flash have not run well together for ages.

No, I don't use IE either and it all seemed fine. But resetting the security has solved the problem for me. My flash is disabled because it causes all sorts of problems so it's not that.
